Electric Car 2.0

What is the difference between the electric cars made in the late 19th century to early 20th century and the electric cars built in the 21st century? You might say the electric cars in the 21st century have far superior engineering designs and technologies that were not even invented in the 19th or/and 20th century.

So we would better ask the question like: WHAT IS THE UNIQUE FEATURE OF ELECTRIC CARS BUILT IN THE 19TH, 20TH AND 21ST CENTURY.

Well, the answer is very simple, they all need battery to store energy. Energy in battery will drive vehicles. Forget about self-driving, IoT, BlueTooth connectivities, GPS guiding display etc., because they are NOT the features only used by electric cars.

What is our goal of Electric Vehicle 2.0? We want to put an engine in it. So it is like a hybrid vehicle. But unlike the normal hybrid vehicles we know, when the EV 2.0 is parked at the owner' garage, the car engine can keep on running to charge its battery, and also to supply electricity for the owner. It is one of many functions we want to make EV very attractive to buyers. Due to this feature, we want to call this type of EVs the EV2.0.

Below are the other features BEST wants to achieve with EV2.0 project:

  1. EV2.0 has no CO2 emission caused by fossil fuel consumption. We will use the car engine to sequestrate the CO2 after fuel is burn. As a result, you will not see exhaust pipe in EV2.0 even though it does burn fuel.
  2. You don't have buy petrol. We will design an engine that allows EV2.0 owners harvesting FREE FUEL such as tree twigg, wood chips, etc., to power the engine. When you own an EV2.0 you can flip the bird to petrol or/and diesel, and never pay attention to the nasty fuel price cycles.
  3. The engine in EV2.0 has energy storage ability. If you love your car, you would NORMALLY park your car away from the sunlight. It is not the same for EV2.0. With an engine that is capable to store heat energy, you will happily park your car under the best radiation of the Sun, and the engine will harvest the heat and store the energy in the battery or/and in the hot water tank. Yes, EV2.0 will store energy for you.

  • Battery/vehicle mass ratio:

EV2.0 will not have battery mass over 10% of its curb weight. Most pure electric passenger vehicles will have more than 20% of battery weight over its curb weight. Tesla Model 3 has curb weight of 1610 kg, and the battery weight is 540 kg (85Kwh). The battery/vehicle mass ratio is at 33.54%. Here we need to discuss energy density. For Tesla Model 3, the energy density is 85*3.6/540 = 0.5667 MJ/Kg. When you use petrol, the energy density is 50 MJ/kg. If you use compressed solid fuel, it should reach energy density of 15 to 25 MJ/kg. EV wins the race of energy efficiency, but loses the battle of energy density.

  • Engine:

EV2.0 in this project has a patent pending engine designed by the team of BEST. There are 2 compression cylinders and 2 expansion cylinders in this engine, each expansion cylinder has 9.82 litres capacity. Engine power output has continuous range similar to CVT. As a result EV2.0 might not need gearbox. Thermal energy delivery medium will be high temperature steam at 1 bar on sea level. Condensation of steam is done by engine itself. Instead of adopting internal combustion, fuel combustion is external.


In EV2.0, momentum energy comes mostly from the engine, of which in essence is the most efficient way to achieve high fuel efficiency. Battery and electric motor are complimentary to engine work load and energy storage. When the vehicle is in electricity supply mode, the engine will rotate Its electric motor as a generator to provide electricity to the owner's home. EV2.0 will not throw the baby out with the bathwater. The baby is the engine. EV2.0 in fact incentivise traditional car makers to move away from internal combustion engines. EV2.0 will put pure electric cars out of business. Potentially EV2.0 will challenge electricity business. Own a EV2.0, you will never pay the electricity bill.

  • Air conditioner:

The engine will provide cool air for the vehicle. Potentially, it offers climate control for the whole house of the car owner. There is no additional AC unit, heat radiator in EV2.0.

  • Electric motors:

We can choose off-the-shelf EM or build a custom designed AC motor. Electric motor is also the generator.

  • External fuel combustion unit:

We might have to consider using liquid fuel in the first prototype to make the task less challenging . Nonetheless, the fuel will burn with high purity oxygen, which produces mainly CO2. The engine will compressed CO2 into 100 bars to 200 bars range and store CO2 as liquid form, which can be used as engine cycle medium potentially.

The business operators are trying to solve many challenges through the concept of smart grid, which requires customers to make their life a little bit easier by adjust electricity consumption, or pay a higher price.

Bush fire

The 2013 bush fire crisis in NSW lead to public debate on fuel build up problem within residential and national park of bush land. According to NSW rural fire service website, on 7th November, there are still 40+ of fire incidents in NSW. So far all the fires are under controlled. As many people finger pointing to who should be blamed for such intense fire, Blue Energy wishes to jump to the bandwagon to present future technologies that might be helpful in problems solving.
